Abstract

In the low-noise model for Slovenian territory, a weak local maximum can be observed at a period of about 26 seconds. This maximum is due to unusual, ever-present narrow-frequency oscillations of the ground, which originate about 4,800 kilometres away in the Gulf of Guinea. Despite the fact that this phenomenon was first mentioned in the 1960s, there is still no unified theory as to what exactly is the origin of this phenomenon, which creates continuous oscillations of the ground with a period of 26 seconds, occasionally even with such an amplitude that it can be detected by seismic stations around the whole world.
