SLOVENIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION – ACTIVITIES IN THE FIELD OF CIVIL PROTECTION

Abstract

The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (ACPDR) carried out activities in the field of civil protection in the context of Slovenia‘s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2021. Priorities in the field of civil protection focused on strengthening resilience to natural and other disasters. Work was oriented towards strengthening the Union Civil Protection Mechanism in all phases of the disaster risk management cycle, on efforts to improve the response to large-scale disasters, on developing the Union disaster resilience goals in the area of civil protection, and on bringing together different stakeholders and disseminating knowledge through the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network. One of Slovenia‘s key tasks in the field of civil protection was to monitor the activation of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism in the event of natural and other disasters, and to provide rescue assistance to affected countries. Slovenia organized one live event during the Presidency, namely a meeting of the Directors-General for Civil Protection; other events were held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
