A SCOUT IS ALWAYS READY TO HELP: ACTIVITIES OF THE SCOUT ORGANIZATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

In Slovenia scouts have been operating under the auspices of the Scout Association of Slovenia for almost 70 years. The Scout Programme, which educates young people to become independent, sympathetic, responsible and engaged individuals, is carried out by more than 2400 scout volunteers in 70 societies – groups – all across the country. In 2020, we participated in the system of protection against natural and other disasters by helping to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic in local communities as volunteers. All across the country different groups organized various charitable and humanitarian activities. At the federal level, different projects in support of the Scout Programme for children were carried out either remotely or in an adapted way. One such project, the Ropotarnica portal, received a National Youth Award in autumn 2020. In 2021, the Scout Association is commemorating 70 years since its establishment. The 40th assembly of the Scout Association of Slovenia was organized on 20 March 2021. This was an electoral assembly, as the groups’ representatives elected a new chief and executive committee of the Scout Association of Slovenia.
