Abstract

The Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO (SNKU) was established in 1982 and has had a current membership of about 25 since the last Decision of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in 2019. The Chair of the National Committee for the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (until 2019 the International Hydrological Programme) (IHP) of UNESCO is also a member of SNKU. The IHP Committee was redesigned for the four-year period 2019-2023 and endorsed at the SNKU meeting in December 2019. This paper briefly summarizes the IHP’s history since its establishment in 1992. Particular emphasis is placed on the current annual tasks of the National Committee by reviewing the planned work in 2021 and the forthcoming changes that are indicated in its work. A particular challenge for the IHP is the preparation of the new multiannual programme called the Ninth Phase of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP-IX, 2022-2029).
