Abstract

In Slovenia, 2018 was the second warmest year on record. The mean annual temperature at the national level was 1.5°C above average compared to the period 1981-2010. The anomaly in temperature in the lowlands amounted to 1.4-2°C, and in the mountains slightly less. Annual precipitation was within the usual variability, with the national average reaching 96% of the long-term mean value. At most measuring points, the deviation from the long-term average did not exceed ±15%. At the national level, average sunshine duration in 2018 reached 99% of the average during the period 1981-2010. Sunshine duration was above the long-term average in the lowlands, while a decrease was observed in the high mountains. The maximum depth of snow cover at Kredarica was 560 cm.
