HIGH WATER IN SLOVENIA IN 2017 AND 2018
Abstract
High-water events and their temporal distribution in 2017 and 2018 corresponded to the average of the past few years, in the course of which an increase in high water conditions during winter months has become increasingly evident. Significantly warmer weather with rain and melting snow in combination with frozen or impermeable ground present adverse hydrological conditions, for, as a rule, they cause river inundation while simultaneously reducing the water reserves in the snow. The reduction in the accumulated water in the snow impacts the available quantities of surface water and groundwater in the spring and summer months.
