REPORT FROM THE 4TH WORLD LANDSLIDE FORUM, LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA, 2017
Abstract
Between 29 May and 2 June 2017 Slovenia hosted the 4th World Landslide Forum (WLF4) in the city of Ljubljana. The main organisation was carried out by the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana, together with the Geological Survey of Slovenia, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana. At the WLF4 over 600 participants from 51 countries discussed and exchanged their knowledge and experience of protection against landslides of all forms and in different environments. Nearly 400 reviewed contributions by the Forum participants were published before the Forum started, in five books published by Springer Nature. After the Forum, a three-day technical field trip was organised. The forum participants adopted a special 2017 Ljubljana Declaration, which directs the efforts of the International Consortium on Landslides based in Kyoto, Japan in reducing landslide risks as an integral part of global efforts to reduce disaster risks, written into the Sendai Framework 2015- 2030, which was also signed by the Republic of Slovenia. This paper briefly summarises the activities of the WLF4 and presents a translation of the entire 2017 Ljubljana Declaration into Slovene.
