Abstract

Naturally occurring radionuclides are wide spread in the environment in Slovenia as well as around the world as a consequence of discharging radionuclides into the environment due to human activities and natural processes. In Slovenia, such area is Žirovski vrh, where uranium ore was excavated in the past. Therefore, the aim of the laboratory experiment was to expand knowledge about the plants’ biological uptake of radionuclides in a specific environment. The plant uptake characteristics mainly depend on plant species, chemical nature of the radionuclides and soil properties. The added value of the understanding of radionuclides in the environment is proven to be is especially valuable in case of TENORM waste disposals.
