Abstract

Being completely buried by snow in an avalanche can often be fatal. Survival depends on the good state of readiness and the rapid response of the people present in the field. In this paper we wanted to present some aspects of the hazards, injuries and rescues in cases of avalanche accident. At the same time, we examined the current situation and readiness to act in cases of avalanche accidents at Slovenian ski resorts. The level of risk for the triggering of avalanches at Slovenian ski resorts is not high, but this does not mean that such disasters cannot occur. Therefore, we believe that medium-sized and large ski resorts in Slovenia, at least, should have appropriate plans in place for preventive and rescue measures in these cases.
