HIGH WATERS IN SLOVENIA IN 2015
Abstract
Following the record year of 2014, when we noted several meteorological and hydrological records and, unfortunately, enormous damage caused by floods, 2015 did not stand out from the long-term average of a series of extreme hydrological events recorded over many years. In accordance with the climatological average of the highest volumes of precipitation recorded, the majority of high-water events occurred during spring and autumn, specifically in May and October. In winter and early spring, minor flooding occurred on the Karst rivers of Ljubljanica and Krka on two occasions. During the summer, there were two separate storm events with heavy rain which caused torrents to flood in the mountain and hill areas of northern Slovenia.
