Abstract

Migrants are a vulnerable population group and have the right to receive particularly attentive medical care. In an accommodation centre in Vrhnika, medical care was provided from October 2015 to March 2016. It was organised separately from the medical services provided to the local population. We provided migrants with emergency medical care, treated injuries and diseases, prevented infections from spreading, and provided medical care to pregnant women, children, and people with special needs. Due to the large number and circulation of migrants in 2015, we focused primarily on treating acute medical conditions and preventing contagious diseases from spreading. In 2016, migrants remained in the centre for several weeks at a time, which made it possible to provide integrated medical care.
