Abstract

The article presents the modelling of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) releases according to the scenarios predicted by legislation. Storage locations of dangerous goods should be selected with care in order to minimize the hazards to people in the case of fire, explosion or dangerous concentrations. The affected areas can be predicted by modelling the accident scenarios. The influence zones for the explosion overpressure are predicted by applying various models available within Phast software. The most influential parameters are weather conditions, hole diameter, direction of release, vessel orientation and physical state of release. Those approximate distances are determined for locations with large vertical LPG vessels that define narrow, wider and the widest effect zones. Based on these distances, various vulnerable objects can be placed in the surroundings of such locations.
