INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE DURING SLEET DISASTER IN SLOVENIA IN 2014
Abstract
During heavy snow and sleet which in early February 2014 caused power failure in large parts of Slovenia, Slovenia for the first time requested extensive international assistance. Through the Civil Protection Mechanism and bilateral cooperation, 11 countries responded quickly and generously to Slovenia’s request for larger electric power generators. Approximately 700 international rescue and expert personnel ensured the operation of a total of 172 power generators from abroad in the affected areas. This event is an example of the biggest international disaster response operation ever taking place in Slovenia and a serious test of host nation support provided by the Republic of Slovenia to all international units.
