FROM LJUBLJANA TO LJUBELJ OR THE PROCESS OF UPDATING SLOVENIA’S EARTHQUAKE CATALOGUE
Abstract
Earthquake catalogues are among the most important seismologist's tools for studying the seismicity of a region. Slovenia's catalogue is being constantly checked and updated. The process of re-evaluation is described for the earthquakes in year 1830, with special attention to an earthquake on 11 August. The main primary sources for that historical period are the newspapers that were plenty and well preserved. A new set of parameters is given, together with an explanation why the epicentre was not in Ljubljana, as stated in the old catalogue, but near Ljubelj on Slovene-Austrian border.
