THE LOWER LEVEL OF SEISMIC NOISE IN SLOVENIA
Abstract
The seismic noise recorded at the same time as an earthquake could affect the proper identification of weak earthquake signals. The prior knowledge of seismic noise level at the location of the seismic station allows us to predict the performance of the identification of weak earthquake signals. Since the definition of all the sources of seismic noise for each particular seismic station is a very complex task, the use of so-called "Low Seismic Noise Model" is preferred. For the development of "Slovenian Low Noise Model" it was necessary to understand the characteristics of the seismic equipment of the national seismic network, to examine the characteristics of seismic noise at particular seismic stations and to collect and analyse quality seismic data in as long as possible time interval.
