TOWER 2014 EXERCISE
Abstract
People travelling by plane usually do not realise that numerous services and their staff are needed for safe take-off and landing. Fire fighting and rescue services play an important role at both civilian and military airports. Members of the only professional fire fighting unit of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF), stationed at the Cerklje ob Krki Airport, receive continuous training for possible interventions. However, being aware that alone they are too few for all the required tasks that arise in case of an accident and that the assistance of volunteer fire fighters and the one professional local fire fighting unit is crucial, they maintain constant cooperation. Therefore, last autumn they conducted a common exercise with the professional fire fighters from Krško and the volunteer fire fighters from Brežice. Both units are equipped with ladders of suitable height for the Cerklje control tower.
