Abstract

Summer 2013 ranked among the warmest, driest and sunniest in Slovenia in last decades. The greatest contribution to the high mean air temperature comes from the very hot period from late July through early August. Many meteorological stations set new maximum air temperature record, and the temperature has risen up to 40 °C at some places. Record values were also set in daily mean temperature and 31-day mean temperature in many places. Heat was accompanied by extremely high nighttime temperature in some areas. Hot days have become much more frequent since 1961, which is in concordance with general air temperature increase in summer months due to global warming.
