THE 2013 CENTRAL EUROPEAN FLOODS
Abstract
In late May and early June 2013, Central Europe was hit by most devastating floods of the year. Flooding started at the North Alpine foothills of Germany and West Austria, the Bohemian Forest and the Ore Mountains. Due to very wet land and heavy precipitation, there was a significant rise in water levels of rivers in the Upper Danube River Basin, especially in the Inn River Basin, as well as in the upper and central part of the Lab River Basin, mostly in the Saale and Mulde River Basins. In these areas, many discharge rates were record high. The economic damage was substantial.
