EARTHQUAKES IN 2012
Abstract
The Seismology and Geology Office of the Slovenian Environment Agency has published the 22nd annual publication "Earthquakes in 2012". It includes 13 professional articles from different areas of seismology. Two articles describe Slovenian seismological network and its operation in 2012, while the leading article provides an overview of earthquake activity in 2012. Three articles from the field of seismological instrumentation present an automatic GSM modem control, analysis of unstable seismometer mass position at Črni vrh and modernization of three seismic stations. The earthquake which occurred on 3rd December 2012 in Zgornji Tuhinj is described in details, as it was the strongest one in Slovenia. Additional article is dedicated to historical earthquakes in the Tuhinj Valley in 1840. Two macroseismic articles describe macroseismic investigations of the influence of geological structure on some earthquake intensities in wider Ljubljana area and renewed online questionnaire on earthquake effects. Seismic microzonation of areas with greater seismic hazard is described as well. The last article presents world's largest earthquakes in 2012.
