Abstract

In Slovenia, there is still no avalanche warning service such as ones operated in neighbouring alpine countries. Nevertheless, the first overall snow season review has now finally come. It was prepared by the Anton Melik Geographical Institute at the ZRC SAZU within the project Natural Disasters without Frontiers/NH-WF in collaboration with the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO), as well as members of the Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia (GRZS). This graphically rich and nearly 60-page publication contains more than 130 photos, 15 graphs and 3 tables. Seasonal weather and snow conditions, avalanche events and accidents are presented, the fatal ones are also analysed. At the end of the publication, which was published only as an e-book, there are also the commentary of an avalanche practician and the presentation of the NH-WF project.
