UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER IMPACTS ON AGRICULTURE IN 2012
Abstract
At the end of winter dormancy period 2011/2012 crops in the Primorska region were damaged due to strong bora and wind erosion. In the early spring, the majority of the country suffered additional damage by frost. Beside that, precipitation deficit, which lasted since autumn 2011, triggered drought conditions already at the beginning of the vegetation season. Further weather development provoked summer agricultural drought, which had dimension of natural disaster. The occurrence of agricultural drought, on the one hand, was affected by irregular precipitation distribution in vegetative season and, on the other hand, by diverse soil water retention characteristics.
