Abstract

Metering and metering-regulation stations for natural gas form a part of gas pipeline infrastructure. They present a potential threat to the environment and people due to the presence of flammable gas. The explosion of released gas in physically obstructed areas of such stations is indeed the main unwanted incident. Operators should pay attention to such events and foresee appropriate mitigation measures. Risk level and its evaluation can be assessed by risk assessment models specially built for this purpose. Such models are of help not only in terms of planning and installation of new stations into the environment, but also in monitoring and managing the risk on existing stations.
