Abstract

The final part of the “Earthquake 2013” exercise was held on 6 October in Ljubljana. The central part of the exercise consisted of the 18th National Examination of the Training Level of the Civil Protection (CP) and Red Cross (RC) First Aid Teams. A total of 14 first aid teams met in the Slovenian capital city; namely 13 teams which won the individual regional competitions and the team which reached the best result among the second-placed teams. The results from individual work stations were summed up by strict evaluators. First place was taken by the first aid team of the regional Nova Gorizia Red Cross Association, second place was taken by the regional Slovenj Gradec Red Cross Association and third place was taken by the III. MoD CP team from Ptuj. This was a major success for the team from Nova Gorizia, since it was its first placement in the national examination. As a result, the team will represent Slovenia at the European First Aid Convention (FACE), which will be held in Austria in 2013. A few days earlier, on 25 and 26 September 2012, a two-day table exercise “Earthquake 2013” was held. The purpose of the exercise was to examine the solutions in the protection and rescue plans in terms of their adequacy in the event of earthquakes, as well as the readiness for taking actions in such events at the municipal, regional and national level.
