MOUNTAIN RESCUE SERVICE – 100 YEARS OF ORGANISED MOUNTAIN RESCUE IN SLOVENIA
Abstract
The beginnings of organised mountain rescue in Slovenia reach back to the establishment of the Mountain Rescue Service station in Kranjska Gora on 16 June 1912. Later, the number of mountain accidents increased in the Slovenian mountains and, thus, also other rescue stations were set up. Today, rescuers operate in 17 rescue stations across Slovenia. In addition to mountain accidents, the Mountain Rescue Service is also involved in the civil protection and disaster relief system, where it provides assistance through technology and know-how. In 2012, mountain rescuers marked the centenary of organised rescue in Slovenia.
