EARTHQUAKES IN 2011
Abstract
The Seismology and Geology Office of the Slovenian Environment Agency has published the 21st annual publication "Earthquakes in the year…". It includes 10 professional articles from different areas of seismology. Three articles describe Slovenian seismological network and its operation in 2011. The leading paper brings an overview of earthquake activity in 2011. Two articles present a comparison of different seismic recorders and instrumental noise analysis for Quanterra Q730 recorder, which is used in Slovenia. Modernisation of seismic station Knežji dol and computation of fault plane solutions for stronger earthquakes are described as well. For the strongest historical earthquake in Slovenia, which occurred in 1511, interpretation of some new historical sources is given at the occasion of its 500th anniversary. The last article presents the world's largest earthquakes in 2011, which was marked by the Great Tohoku earthquake in Japan.
