Abstract

In 2011, seismic activity in Slovenia was lower than the year before. The Seismic Network of the Republic of Slovenia recorded 1,920 local earthquakes, of which twenty had the local magnitude greater than or equal to 2.0. The inhabitants felt at least 38 earthquakes, four of which reached the maximum intensity of IV-V EMS-98. The largest earthquake took place on 20 August at 10:49 UTC (12:49 Central European Summer time (CEST)) with the epicentre in the vicinity of Raka na Dolenjskem. Its local magnitude was 3.1 and the highest intensity IV-V EMS-98. A moderate earthquake occurred on 29 July at 10:37 UTC (12:37 CEST) near Virnikov Grintovec in the vicinity of the Slovenian-Austrian border, and on 29 August at 6:43 UTC (8:43 CEST) near Jevnica. The local magnitude of both earthquakes was 3.0. No earthquakes in 2011 caused damage to buildings, except for minor cracks in the plaster.
