FLOODS AROUND THE WORLD IN 2011
Abstract
In 2011, there were 133 major floods in the world (in 2010 there were as many as 191). Most floods were again recorded in Southeast Asia, the majority in India and the Philippines. The 2011 floods resulted in the migration of 12 million people, who were forced to leave their homes due to high waters. There were more than 17,000 flood victims, and 13.5 million square kilometres of land were affected.
