EXTREME PRECIPITATION DURING THE SEPTEMBER 2010 FLOODS – COMPARISON WITH SIMILAR EVENTS IN 1926 AND 1933

Abstract

The article presents a spatio-temporal analysis of three precipitation events (September 1926, September 1933 and September 2010) that resulted in severe flooding across Slovenia. All available and existent data were collected and for the first time the analysis of all three events was preformed with unified methodology. The result showed a similar temporal and spatial pattern in the September 1926 and September 2010 events, while the precipitation event in 1933 was longer and spatially more diverse than the other two mentioned events. Regarding the total amount of precipitation in a precipitation event the September 2010 event stands out. At that time 10 % more precipitation fell than in the two other events. This was seen mainly in larger watercourses (srednja and spodnja Sava river) and in the consequences in this area.
