STRESS CAUSED TO AGRICULTURAL PLANTS BY WEATHER IN 2010
Abstract
The worst recorded drought in the last 130 years hit Russia and destroyed one-fifth of the wheat yield in one of the world’s largest exporters. In addition to drought, wildfires ravaging across the European part of Russia destroyed the remaining fields. Wheat prices have soared on the global markets. Wheat yield in Slovenia in the year 2010 was satisfactory. One of the major characteristics of the vegetation period 2010 was a crossing of different weather that caused stresses on agricultural plants like heat, drought, extreme moisture and floods, the effects of which were very heterogeneous by region and also affected agricultural plants differently.
