Abstract

Earthquake activity was moderate in 2009. The inhabitants experienced more than 32 earthquakes. The earthquake with the maximum intensity occurred on 27 October at 19.24 UTC (21.24 Central European Time (CET)) in the vicinity of Rateče. The local magnitude of the earthquake was 2.0 degrees (ARSO, 2009-2010), and at its highest intensity was V on the EMS-98 scale. On 23 January at 3.27 UTC (4.27 CET) occurred the strongest earthquake in Slovenia in 2009, its local magnitude was 2.9 degrees. Several earthquakes from Italy were felt as well. The strongest among them was the one that devastated the city of L’Aquila and its surroundings on 6 April.
