NEW SATELITE PRODUCTS FOR USE IN METEOROLOGY AND HYDROLOGY

Abstract

The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) develops specialised satellite products together with national meteorological centres of the member states. The Italian Meteorological Office is responsible for the development of three types of products: precipitation quantity, soil moisture and snow parameters. Since 2005, the EUMETSAT, together with other participating institutions from different states, develops special products that will be available to all member states for permanent use in the beginning of 2012. The first prototypes are already available and are presented in this article.
