EARTHQUAKES IN 2009
Abstract
The Seismology and Geology Office of the Slovenian Environment Agency has published the nineteenth annual publication “Earthquakes in the year…”. It brings 14 professional articles from different areas of seismology and a report on the 50th anniversary of modern seismology in Slovenia. In six articles the operation of the Slovenian seismic network is described as well as its modernisation and a comparative instrumental test. Two articles address the seismicity of Slovenia followed by three articles on the study of influence of soft sediments on seismic ground motion and the danger of soil-structure resonance and seismic building vulnerability in Ljubljana. Periodic reestimation of the Slovenian seismic hazard map is also presented. In two articles the world’s largest earthquakes are described and the devastating L’Aquila (central Italy) earthquake.
