EXTREME PRECIPITATION EVENTS IN SLOVENIA IN 2009
Abstract
In 2009, Slovenia was hit several times by extensive floods following intense rainfall. At the end of March, abundant rainfall caused problems in parts of western Slovenia. Maribor and the surrounding areas were mostly hit by extreme rainfall at the beginning of August. A month later, downpours amounted to abnormal precipitation values in northern Slovenia. Long and intensive rainfall and snowmelt in late December was followed by extensive floods. Numerous summer thunderstorms accompanied with downpours, hail and severe wind gusts caused acute damage.
