STORM WINDS IN SLOVENIA IN 2009
Abstract
In 2009, wind levels in Slovenia were average. The wind caused damage during summer storms, whereas in winter, damage was caused by the strong north-east wind called Bora in Primorska. Slovenia had the strongest storm winds on 22 May, 16 June, 3-4 August and 22 August. Between 12 and13 October, a strong north wind passed Slovenia and the foehn wind below the Karavanke mountain range was the fiercest. The roads in the Vipava Valley were blocked by the Bora wind for different time periods totalling 53 days. Bora caused most trouble in December, when some roads had to be completely closed for traffic.
