Abstract

Earthquake activity in Slovenia was moderate in 2008. The residents felt more than 37 earthquakes. The strongest earthquake occurred on 19 April at 01:49 UTC (03.39 Central European daylight saving time) in the vicinity of Zagorje ob Savi. Its local magnitude was 3.1, and the highest intensity V-VI EMS-98. The earthquake caused minor material damage. In December, Slovenia felt the earthquake with epicentre near Castelnovo ne’ Monti in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The earthquake occurred on 23 December at 16. 24 CET. It had a magnitude of 5.4, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). In this respect, it was the largest earthquake felt in Slovenia with epicentre outside the country.
