EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE AWARENESS OF PEOPLE LIVING IN MORE EARTHQUAKE PRONE AREAS COMPARED TO THAT OF PEOPLE LIVING IN LESS EARTHQUAKE PRONE AREAS

Abstract

The objective of the research was to establish if people living in earthquake prone areas are more knowledgeable about the proper response in case of an earthquake to those living in parts of Slovenia less prone to earthquakes. To this end we compiled a questionnaire with 19 statements concerning action to be taken during and after an earthquake, knowledge of the basic facts about earthquakes, self-evaluation of the knowledge about a proper response to an earthquake, and earthquake related fear. A comparison of answers by respondents from more and less earthquake prone areas revealed that, in terms of statistics, there are no major differences between the citizens’ opinions regarding the statements.
