OPTIONAL SUBJECT ‘PROTECTION AGAINST NATURAL AND OTHER DISASTERS’ IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Abstract

In the school year 2010/11, the optional subject 'Protection against natural and other disasters' will be introduced in several primary schools. It will be taught for one school year in the 7th, 8th or 9th grade. The content of this subject encourages pupils to adopt a proactive approach towards the environment, natural and other disasters, other people in need of help, and voluntary work. The objectives and content are linked to the content of other compulsory subjects and activities. Through their response, large numbers of participants at training courses for future teachers of protection against natural and other disasters have shown a growing need for this knowledge and made us aware that we have not made enough progress to this end in the past.
