Abstract

In 2008, wind levels were average except in the Primorska region; in the east of Slovenia and in the Podravje region, however, wind levels were below average. Strong winds caused damage in March when cyclone Emma passed through Europe and in the cold part of the year when the Bora blew through the Primorska region, although the most substantial damage incurred during summer storms. Slovenia had storms with the strongest winds on 7th and 13th July, 8th, 15th and 23rd August and 13th September. Due to the strong Bora in the Vipava Valley, the roads were closed to traffic for a total of 33 days.
