NATURAL DISASTERS IN SLOVENIAN FORESTS
Abstract
With climate change, which is the result of global warming, the amount of energy in the atmosphere increases, causing intense developments in the atmosphere. This change in climate is being reflected in Slovenia. Weather turbulence and winds caused by it are mostly due to cyclogenesis in the Northern Mediterranean. These extreme weather events are reflected in the increasing extent of forest damage caused by natural disasters. Disasters and damage caused by the weather in these forests are monitored through a particular forest area hit by disasters and over the extent of damage, most commonly expressed in the quantity of damaged trees in m3. The paper shows the impact of disasters in the woods and the impact on the structure of trees cut in the period 1995 - 2008.
