ROCKFALLS IN THE AREA OF THE ČEDCA WATERFALL
Abstract
One of most important rockfalls to take place in Slovenia over last couple of years occurred in the area of the Čedca waterfall in Jezersko. Due to rockfall in spring and early summer of 2008 the height of the waterfall, which used to be the highest waterfall in our country, lowered considerably. Consequently a debris talus was formed. The water and the melted snow took away enormous quantities of material. Due to great muddiness of the Čedce stream, silt stopped the natural sinking of the stream water to the underground therefore the surface stream flew down to the village putting some houses under threat of flooding. Also some of the biggest rockfalls and land slides in Europe and in the World are described.
