EUROPEAN UNION INTERNATIONAL CIVIL PROTECTION EXERCISE – HUROMEX 2008
Abstract
At the end of September 2008, Hungary and Romania organized an international civil protection simulation exercise “EU Huromex 2008”. During the exercise, international assistance within the community civil protection mechanism was demonstrated in the event of a major disaster in EU territory. The exercise scenario anticipated floods in the border region between Hungary and Romania, followed by accidents with dangerous substances and industrial accidents. Besides Hungary and Romania, teams from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia participated. The Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief sent a unit composed of fire fighters, experts for interventions in accidents involving dangerous substances (HAMZAT), technical divers, rescue[1]dog handlers and command which provided all the logistic support. The Slovene unit included 23 members of the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration.
