Abstract
From August 6th to August 14th 2008, the 33rd Geological Congress took place. Geologists from all over the world gather together once every four years at this congress to present their work and learn about progress in the field of geological science. The congress, which covers all aspects of geology and is believed to be the “Geological Olympics” by some, attracted 6,000 participants from 113 countries. The sponsor of the congress was King Harald V of Norway who officially opened the congress. The congress started with the topic of the beginnings of life on Earth and finished with geology in space. The discussions referred to the questions of climate change, natural disasters and alternative sources of energy. Several Slovene experts from various institutions actively participated at the congress. The article mentions only the two seismological discussions.
