CLIMATIC CONDITIONS IN THE WORLD IN 2007
Abstract
The annual global temperature of combined land and ocean surfaces in 2007 was 0.5 °C above average, ranking the year as the 5th warmest on record. Global surface temperature is increasing, as well as the middle troposphere temperature, while the lower stratosphere temperature is decreasing. Global precipitation in 2007 was below the 1961–1990 average. Several million people were affected by devastating floods in some regions – the most affected were Africa and China – and by severe drought in other regions, the worst being in China. During the heat wave in southeastern Europe, several temperature records were broken.
