SNOW SEASON OF 2005/2006
Abstract
The snow season of 2005/2006 was one of the snowiest over most of Slovenia in the last 20 years. The duration of snow cover was very long in the major part of the country. Cumulative freshly fallen snow was well above the normal, especially in the lower parts of Primorska region and northern part of Slovenia. Mountainous areas and the south-eastern part of Slovenia received an average or slightly below-average amount of freshly fallen snow (Figure 1 ali 2). The majority of snow fell during three heavy snowfall events. The first occurred at the end of November, the second at the end of December and the last at the beginning of March. Each of these events was unusual and is therefore described in detail in the article.
