FIRE AT ŠUMKA ON THE KARST
Abstract
A large number of fires in nature (forest fires) broke out in Slovenia in 2006. This in itself would not have been problematic if the fires had been small in size and spread over time. Unfortunately, on 21 Jule 2006, four large fires were burning simultaneously in Primorska (Golac, Divača, Rodik, Škrbina) together with a number of smaller fires. On Saturday, 22 July 2006, while extinguishing these fires, a fire also broke out in the Tomos company in Koper, which caused the redeployment to Koper of firefighting vehicles from fighting the forest fires. On the Tuesday, fires also occurred in the Bovec region. The largest fire broke out on Friday 21 July 2006, around 17.00, in the vicinity of Šumka between Komna and Branika in the Nova Gorica municipality.
