ALPS VISITORS – INFOSYSTEM – NATURAL HAZARDS

Abstract

The natural attributes of Alpine regions has encouraged the fast development of tourism, which attracts more and more visitors every year. However, the many landslides, avalanches, rock falls, torrents and floods highlight the great sensitivity of these regions. They draw attention to the need to improve the awareness of both inhabitants and visitors and to assure their safety. Slovenian and Austrian experts therefore joined together in a project called AV.IS within which they have combined their knowledge and experience in the area of prevention from natural hazards. The goal of this project is to provide a uniform information system which will considerably improve the information provided to the public about natural risks at the most visited locations.
