MONITORING SEVERE STORMS USING REMOTE SENSING OF THE ATMOSPHERE ON 29 JUNE 2006
Abstract
The value of remote sensing of the atmosphere for monitoring the atmosphere is increasing due to better temporal and spatial resolution. The Meteosat8 meteorological satellite scans every 15 minutes, meteorological radar located on Lisca scans every 10 minutes and a lightning detector monitors constantly. On 29 June 2006, severe hail storms caused damage near Maribor and in central Slovenia. The exact location of the development and movement of convective cells can be detected using remote sensing data.
