EARTHQUAKES IN SLOVENIA IN 2004
Abstract
Earthquake activity was moderate in 2004. People felt more than 72 earthquakes, but not all the hypocentres were on Slovene territory. The most powerful earthquake was on 12 July at 13:04 UTC or 15.04 Central European daylight saving time, with hypocentre in the vicinity of Lepena (Upper Soča valley). Its local magnitude was 4.9 (ARSO, 2004-2005), and the highest intensity VI-VII EMS-98. On 24 November at 22:59 UTC or 23.59 Central European time, the area of the Lago di Garda (Italy) was shaken powerfully. In terms of local magnitude (5.3), this was the most powerful earthquake felt by the inhabitants of Slovenia.
