THE SYSTEM OF INTENTIONAL RELEASE OF SNOW AVALANCHES WITH FIRING RODS ON THE KANIN SKI PISTE
Abstract
ATC Kanin has built a new four-seat lift that will link the piste on Kanin with the ski centre of Sella Nevea in Italy. In order to protect the lift and ski runs, a modern system for the controlled release of avalanches, GAZ EX, has been installed, which operates on the basis of an explosion of mixed oxygen and propane, by which snow avalanches can be released in a timely fashion so that they have less force and a smaller extent. Long-range operation of the system enables simple, cheap and safe management. The operation of the system is independent of the weather and snow conditions and is also environmentally more friendly than other methods of deliberate release of snow avalanches.
