INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION AND RESCUE EXERCISE EUROPOLEX 2005
Abstract
An international simulation exercise EUROPOLEX 2005 took place from 26 June to 1 July 2005 near the Polish city of Wroclaw. The exercise, which was organised with the aid of the European Union, within the framework of the Community Mechanism for strengthening cooperation in the area of civil protection, was carried out for the purpose of improving the response of rescue units of different countries in the case of intervention during major natural disasters outside the European Union. The aforementioned exercise was the largest practical exercise to date in the European Union within the framework of the Community Mechanism. The aim of the exercise was to increase the capacity to carry out joint actions of protection and rescue in the European Union or outside it. Nineteen rescue units with almost 1000 rescuers from 14 countries took part in the exercise.
